Wompoo Pigeon
Ptilinopus
magnificus

Wompoo Pigeon feeding on
fruit of the Alexandra Palm.
The Wompoo is one of
the most magnificent fruit pigeons in the Wet Tropics of Australia.
The unmistakable deep-throated call "wallop the blue" is
often heard in the lowland and adjacent upland rainforest. It was
once found from the tip of Cape York Peninsula to Illawarra in NSW,
however due to loss of habitat it is now seldom seen in NSW.
Size: 350 to 450mm
