Giant White-tailed Rat (Juvenile), Uromys caudimaculatus

The Giant White-tailed Rat is restricted to Northern Queensland from just south of Townsville to the tip of Cape York Peninsula. It is found in rainforest and closed sclerophyll forest at all altitudes. It eats fruits, nuts, fungi, insects, small reptiles, amphibians, crustaceans and bird eggs.

This is a very large rat. It has a body length of 330mm and tail length of 345mm. They can weigh up to 640gr.

It is preyed upon by the Lesser Sooty Owl, the Spotted-tailed Quoll, the Dingo, feral Cats and the Rufous Owl.
