The Paradise Buff-breasted
Kingfisher migrates here from New Guinea
to breed. Usually arriving in the Wet
Tropics of Australia in the last days of October or the first weeks of
November. They excavate nesting
chambers in active termite mounds on the ground.
The adult birds normally
depart Australia in late March with the young remaining behind for another
4 to 6 weeks.
