Golden
Orb-weaver
Nephila pilipes

This is one of the most commonly
encountered spiders in the Wet Tropics. The female is spectacular with her black
legs and bright yellow leg joints sitting in the middle of a 1 m golden silk
orb.
The males are tiny and black
(5-6mm) and are often seen on the periphery of the web. The female body length
is about 40mm.
This is a non aggressive spider
and is considered harmless to humans.
