Northern Barred Frogs
mating in a Thylogale pond at the onset of the Wet Season.
The female Northern
Barred Frog is larger than the male.
They are terrestrial inhabitants of
rainforest and wet sclerophyll forest on the Atherton Tablelands and
coastal ranges north of the Johnstone River in Northern Queensland. Unfortunately
Northern Barred Frogs sit upright on the roads during the Wet Season and
are often mistaken for the introduced Cane Toad and are deliberately run
over.
The tadpoles are
enormous (in excess 100mm) and are often seen in the creeks on Mount Lewis
while on safari.
Size: 90 mm
