Yellow-footed Antechinus
Antechinus flavipes

Antichinus - Antechinus flavipes

This very bold, highly arboreal marsupial feeds mostly on insects. The curiously flattened head allows it to hunt in the tightest of cavities. It also includes in its diet anything from fruit, flowers and nectar to small birds and mice. After a months gestation the female gives birth to as many as 12 young who are carried in the pouch for up to 5 weeks. They are weaned at about three months. At the end of each breeding season all males in the colony die leaving the food resources for the breeding females.
